Access and Training

Basic training on all equipment is generally provided free of charge. The nature of the training varies by instrument, but usually consists of a group training session, followed by a one-on-one session in which the user demonstrates the ability to safely operate the instrument.

The EM Laboratory staff are available for consultation and troubleshooting of user issues. However, we cannot provide comprehensive training in underlying theory of analytical techniques or details of specimen preparation methods. Therefore, some background in electron microscopy or other pertinent analytical techniques (e.g. previous experience or completion of an academic course in electron microscopy, XRD, etc.) is highly recommended, but not required.

Although we are primarily a user facility, laboratory staff members are available to perform analysis for customers for an additional technical assistance fee.

To arrange training on the instruments or analysis by laboratory staff, contact one of the EM Laboratory staff members, preferably by email.
